Meghan Markle Given ‘Excuse’ to Skip UK Trip in May, Says Royal Expert

Meghan Markle appears to have a substantial reason for potentially opting out of a forthcoming journey to the UK with the Sussexes. Speculation has been rife about the Duchess of Sussex’s participation alongside her husband, Prince Harry, in the celebrations marking the anniversary of the Invictus Games set for next month.

However, it seems the thought of returning to the UK is causing Meghan some trepidation. The Invictus Games, a paralympic-style event founded by Prince Harry for wounded, injured, or sick armed services personnel and veterans, holds significant meaning for the couple, not just for its philanthropic impact but also for its personal resonance, being one of the first public platforms where they appeared together.

Given this deep connection, Meghan’s hesitance to return to the UK for the event underscores the complexities of her relationship with her former home. Meghan’s reluctance is rooted in more than just the logistical challenges of international travel. It points to the nuanced and, at times, strained dynamics between the Duchess and the broader UK landscape, which has been marked by intense media scrutiny and public discourse.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams tells the Sun: “Meghan isn’t obviously keen on visiting Britain because she is not popular here. Nor is Harry, but it’s different for him. She’s asked for this. If she comes there will be a huge amount of adverse publicity because of the way she has acted for the past four years. On top of that, you have the issue of Archie and Lilibet who are completely blameless.”

He adds: “The security would be decided on a case-by-case basis, they would make sure the trip was secure from the point of view of the UK,” he said. “I think security could be used as an excuse not to come though.”

This situation reflects the ongoing journey of Meghan and Harry as they navigate life after their decision to step back as senior members of the Royal Family, seeking a more private life while still engaging with their philanthropic ventures. The term “afraid of coming back to the hood” captures a visceral sense of apprehension that transcends mere discomfort, suggesting a deeper layer of emotional and psychological considerations at play, via The Mirror.

This sentiment reflects the Duchess’s past experiences in the UK, which have been punctuated by moments of tension and widespread media attention, some of which have been less than favorable. As the Invictus Games anniversary approaches, all eyes will be on the Sussexes, with particular interest in Meghan’s decision regarding her attendance.

This situation not only highlights the personal decisions faced by public figures in balancing their public roles and personal well-being but also underscores the ongoing public fascination with the lives of Meghan and Harry. Their choices continue to spark discussions about the nature of royal duties, personal autonomy, and the relentless gaze of the public and media on individuals in the public eye.
