Prince Harry Claims Palace Pulled Protection to Block US Move with Meghan

Prince Harry’s return to the Royal Courts of Justice this week has stirred up fresh controversy after he claimed the removal of his police protection in 2020 was part of a deliberate move to stop him and Meghan from stepping back as senior royals and moving to the US.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Harry said he was “overwhelmed” and “exhausted” by the whole process, calling it the most important of all his legal battles. He described the loss of his police protection as “difficult to swallow” and suggested there was more going on behind the scenes than people realised.

But not everyone’s buying it. Dai Davies, the former head of Scotland Yard’s Royal Protection, was quick to shut it down, saying Harry was “talking complete nonsense.” In comments to Mail Online, he pointed out that the Duke is still provided with a liaison officer who has access to the latest intelligence and works with Harry’s own highly capable security team.

Davies added: “It would be beneath [the Queen] not to allow RAVEC to do their job professionally, or make leanings against them,” making it clear that the protection decisions weren’t personal or politically motivated.

A source close to Priti Patel, who was Home Secretary at the time, also weighed in, explaining the decision had been made by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) following a professional risk assessment. That decision came after Harry and Meghan officially stepped back from their royal duties.

Still, Harry insisted to The Telegraph that their intentions were genuine: “We were trying to create this happy house.” He also hinted that not everything had been made public yet, adding, “People would be shocked by what’s being held back.”

The court case has already stretched on for three years, and Harry’s comments have added fuel to an already heated debate about his and Meghan’s royal exit and what level of support they should be entitled to now they’re no longer working royals.

As always, reactions are split. While some support Harry’s concerns over safety, others believe he’s being unrealistic in expecting taxpayer-funded protection while living in the US. Either way, the fallout from “Megxit” clearly isn’t done causing headlines anytime soon.
