Dramatic Explosion Ambulance Bursts into Flames in Staffordshire, Miraculously No Injuries Reported

In a heart-stopping incident in Barton-under-Needwood, Staffordshire, an ambulance erupted into a massive fireball just moments after delivering a 91-year-old patient to her home. The explosion was so powerful that it sent the ambulance’s roof soaring 50 feet into the air, ultimately crashing into the garage of locals David and Marilyn Brinklow, by “the Mirror“.

The Brinklows were enjoying a peaceful afternoon with a cup of tea when they were startled by a deafening explosion. Rushing to see what had happened, they were met with the alarming sight of their front garden ablaze.

Captured on video, the dramatic scene unfolded shortly after two care workers had safely escorted their elderly neighbor back to her residence following a hospital visit. Initially alerted by a concerned passerby who noticed smoke billowing from the ambulance’s engine, one of the carers inspected the vehicle, unaware of the impending danger.

Within minutes, the ambulance violently exploded, causing significant damage to the Brinklows’ property, igniting their garden, melting the rear of their Honda Civic, shattering their living room windows, and scorching their curtains.

Miraculously, despite the severity of the explosion and the extensive property damage, there were no injuries. Marilyn Brinklow, 74, recounted the terror of the experience, likening it to a scene from a Hollywood movie and expressing her ongoing distress from the ordeal.

David Brinklow, a 69-year-old retired carpenter, described the explosion as akin to a “roman candle” and emphasized the miraculous nature of no one being harmed, especially considering their neighbor had been in the ambulance shortly before the blast.

EMED, the private ambulance service responsible for the vehicle, has acknowledged the incident and assured that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the explosion. The company stressed the importance of safety for both patients and the community and is coordinating with the vehicle manufacturer and safety consultants to prevent future incidents. In the meantime, efforts are being made to address the damage inflicted on neighboring properties through insurance.
