Richard Madeley Blames Maureen Lipman for Losing His Wedding Ring in Hilarious Throwback Story

Good Morning Britain star Richard Madeley has shared a lighthearted anecdote about how Dame Maureen Lipman inadvertently caused him to lose his original wedding ring. During a chat with Lorraine Kelly on Thursday, November 14, Richard recounted the moment he realized his ring was gone after watching Maureen’s one-woman show in Manchester.

“I lost my wedding ring because of Maureen Lipman,” Richard, 68, revealed, according to the Express. “We were watching her one-woman show in Manchester many years ago, and I had lost a lot of weight because I had been ill. At the end, we gave her a standing ovation, and I clapped, and my ring flew off, disappeared under the stage. Once she was gone, I couldn’t find it. I had to get a replacement. This isn’t the original. All her fault!”

Richard and his wife, Judy Finnigan, have been married for nearly 40 years, a milestone they’ve often reflected on publicly. In a candid interview with Woman’s Own last year, Judy opened up about the realities of their long-lasting relationship. “We’ve been married 37 years, and marriage is hard, there is no doubt about it. We might sometimes be absolutely furious with each other and not speaking,” she admitted, reported by OK! Magazine.

“But in the end, that kind of thing doesn’t matter, especially as you get older. We have so many similar interests and have always respected each other’s opinions, which is why we managed to work so well together,” Judy explained.

Richard has echoed these sentiments, acknowledging that their on-air chemistry often revealed their occasional spats. “If you’ve had a row, you can’t hide it,” he said. “I do remember when Judy and I were presenting together every day… if we’d had a massive row in the car on the way to Liverpool to do the show, people would call within 30 seconds of us going on air, saying, ‘They’ve had a row, haven’t they?’ People can tell.”

Despite their occasional disagreements, Richard and Judy remain a beloved duo both on and off screen. Richard even shared a sweet detail about their relationship during his Good Morning Britain filming. “When I’m doing Good Morning Britain, I sleep in the spare room. I wouldn’t think of doing that to Judy. Apart from anything else, Judy and her sleep… you do not mess with,” he joked.
