Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s future in Netflix laid bare by streamer exec

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are gearing up to expand their creative footprint on Netflix, aligning with their substantial $100 million contract with the streaming giant. The diverse array of projects under development promises to showcase the Sussexes’ versatility in content creation, spanning various genres and formats.

The insights into the couple’s forthcoming endeavors on Netflix were revealed by Bela Bajaria, the platform’s Chief Content Officer, in a conversation with The New York Times. Bajaria unveiled an exciting lineup of projects that the Sussexes are currently nurturing, which includes a feature film, a scripted television series, and several unscripted series.

These projects are being developed in collaboration with Brandon Riegg, Netflix’s Vice President of Unscripted and Documentary Series, indicating a broad spectrum of content that the audience can anticipate. Bajaria emphasized the nascent stage of these projects, noting that they are in “very early development.” However, she expressed particular enthusiasm about the movie in the works, hinting at its promising potential.

The breadth of development activities, from a movie and a TV show to unscripted content, underscores the dynamic range of storytelling that Harry and Meghan aim to bring to Netflix’s global audience. This update arrives amidst speculative discussions about the Sussexes’ financial standing and the future of their partnership with Netflix as the initial term of their deal approaches its conclusion. Signed in September 2020, shortly after they decided to step back from senior royal duties, the agreement marked a significant pivot towards media and production for the Duke and Duchess.

Since the inception of their deal, Harry and Meghan have introduced a limited but impactful selection of projects to Netflix subscribers. Their docuseries, “Harry & Meghan,” provided a deeply personal glimpse into their lives post-royal exit, resonating with viewers around the world. More recently, the Prince Harry-led documentary “Heart of Invictus” made its debut, continuing to build on the narrative of resilience and hope that the Sussexes have championed.

As Harry and Meghan continue to delve into content creation, their upcoming projects for Netflix are keenly awaited by audiences eager to see the unique perspectives and stories the couple chooses to explore through their expansive production deal.
