“Much-Loved Husband and Father” Woman Charged with Killing Asda Security Guard in Arbroath

A woman has appeared in court charged with the killing of Alun Harris-Richards, a 61-year-old Asda security guard, in Arbroath, Angus, according to The Mirror.

Natasha Smith, 37, was arrested and charged in connection with Harris-Richards’ death and made her appearance at Forfar Sheriff Court on Tuesday. Harris-Richards was found unresponsive at the Asda store in Westway Retail Park on Sunday evening around 7:25 pm. Despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a heartfelt statement released through Police Scotland, Harris-Richards’ family expressed their grief: “Alun was a much-loved husband, father, and bampy and will be missed by all his family and everyone who knew him. Thank you to the emergency services and all those who assisted. We would like to ask for privacy at what is a very difficult time as we come to terms with our sudden loss.”

Smith, an Arbroath resident, faces charges of culpable homicide, acting in an abusive manner towards other staff members, and theft by shoplifting. During her court appearance, she made no plea and was remanded in custody. She is expected to return to court within the next week.

Hayley Tatum, Asda’s chief people and corporate affairs officer, shared the company’s sorrow: “We are truly saddened by the death of one of our colleagues, Alun Harris-Richards. Our deepest condolences are with his friends and family at this difficult time. We are providing support to colleagues at our Arbroath store and would like to thank customers for their understanding during this difficult time.”

The community of Arbroath has been deeply affected by the tragedy, as Harris-Richards was a well-known and respected figure in the area. The investigation continues, and further updates are expected as the case proceeds through the legal system.
