Why Prince William ‘won’t trust’ Harry and Meghan even as Kate pushes for peace

Despite the ongoing tension between Prince William and his younger brother Prince Harry, Princess Kate Middleton is quietly working behind the scenes to mend their fractured relationship. While William remains hesitant to reconcile with Harry and Meghan Markle, Kate is playing the role of “peacemaker,” hoping to heal the rift that has deepened since the couple stepped down from their royal duties and relocated to California.
The brothers’ fallout intensified after Harry’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, the couple’s Netflix docuseries, and Harry’s 2023 memoir, Spare. The public revelations about the royal family have only served to widen the divide. However, according to Heat Magazine, Kate believes that the distance between the brothers has only made the situation worse.
“She’s not pushing hard, but she is quietly encouraging William to soften his heart towards his brother and to keep an open mind,” a source shared with the publication.
Despite Kate’s attempts to foster reconciliation, Prince William remains “very reluctant to trust Harry and Meghan”. The Duke of Cambridge’s reluctance to forgive is understandable given the public nature of the disputes, though Kate’s quiet support for healing the family dynamic continues.
Her efforts are motivated not only by a desire to mend the past but also by her concern for the future and the example it sets for her own children. “It breaks her heart to imagine something like this happening to them, so she wants to show them that family is worth fighting for,” the insider explained.
Prince Harry is expected to return to the UK in April for a legal battle concerning security arrangements. While it remains uncertain whether he will reunite with his family during this visit, Kate is hopeful for a resolution. “If it were up to her, she’d love them all to sit down and talk things through,” the source added.
However, the source also acknowledges the ongoing difficulty of the situation, concluding, “Only time will tell if they can let the animosity go.” The future of the royal brothers’ relationship remains uncertain, with much riding on whether personal and public grievances can be set aside for the sake of family unity.
