We Are Still Working to Establish What Happened’: Tragic Explosion Rocks Scottish Flat Block

An ordinary evening in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, took a tragic turn when an explosion tore through a block of flats, leaving one man dead and several others injured. It was around 6 p.m. when fire and emergency crews rushed to the scene at Kellie Place, following multiple reports of a blast, told The Guardian.

The explosion claimed the life of a man inside the flat, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have yet to formally identify him. Sergeant Neill Drummond shared, “We are still working to establish the full circumstances of what happened at this property, however, we can confirm that one male has passed away. Our inquiries to confirm his identity and provide his next of kin with all the necessary support they may require are ongoing.”

Three other residents from the block were also affected, suffering minor injuries. They were taken to Forth Valley Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The response from emergency teams was immediate and extensive. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they received numerous reports of the explosion and a fire at Kellie Place. A spokesman stated that they “immediately mobilised a number of resources to the scene,” including a specialist urban search and rescue team, a heavy rescue unit, a height appliance, and four fire engines.

By 10:15 p.m., emergency crews had completed their work on-site, but the aftermath left significant disruption. Police Scotland implemented road closures across the A907, B9096, Kellie Place, and Tullibody Road to accommodate the multi-agency response, only lifting them as the “major incident” was deescalated just before midnight. However, further work on utilities may require additional closures in the area.

In light of the explosion, Alloa Town Hall was opened as a respite centre for residents unable to return to their homes while gas and electrical repairs were conducted. Police Scotland assured that, if necessary, alternative accommodation would be provided for displaced residents.

As the investigation continues, authorities expressed gratitude to the local community for their patience and cooperation. “We’ll provide more information in due course,” Sergeant Drummond added, emphasizing the importance of support from residents as they work to uncover the cause of the tragic explosion.
