TikTok Prankster Mizzy Convicted of Phone Theft During E-bike Ride in London

TikTok personality Bacari-Bronze O’Garro, known online as Mizzy, has been convicted of stealing a phone from a woman while riding past her on an e-bike. The incident, which took place in central London on June 15, 2022, quickly escalated into a police chase, with O’Garro attempting to discard the phone before being apprehended.

The event unfolded as Mizzy rode a green Lime e-bike through Highbury New Park in Islington. Dressed in a blue tracksuit with a black and white scarf, he snatched an iPhone 13 Pro Max from Ruby Hewitt while she was texting. The phone, valued at approximately £1,000, was taken so swiftly that Hewitt only caught a glimpse of the thief’s back as he sped away. Describing the ordeal, she expressed feelings of stress, anxiety, and fear for her safety.

Shortly after the theft, Mizzy, then 17, was approached by police for unrelated reasons. He fled the scene, tossing the phone over a fence into some bushes. However, his escape was short-lived as he was tackled off his bike and fled on foot, only to be found hiding behind a nearby tree and arrested.

In court, O’Garro, now 19, appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court wearing a somber black jacket and trousers. Despite his claim that the phone had been handed to him by a friend and his actions were out of fear of the police, the magistrate found his explanations unconvincing. Presiding magistrate Fros Kyriacou dismissed his testimony, citing his fingerprints on the device as evidence of his direct involvement in the theft.

Prosecutor Edward Kalber detailed how the area was notorious for phone snatchings and robberies, suggesting that Mizzy’s behavior was suspicious enough to attract police attention. Three officers, already in the vicinity in an unmarked car, observed his erratic movements before the chase ensued.
