Ruth Langsford Reflects on Life Lessons After Split from Eamonn Holmes: ‘You Can’t Go Back and Change Things’

Five months after announcing her split from Eamonn Holmes, Ruth Langsford has candidly opened up about her life lessons and her determination not to repeat past mistakes. The couple, who were married for 14 years, shocked fans in May when they revealed their divorce was underway through a spokesperson, told Lancs Live.

While Ruth has not directly addressed the separation publicly, she continues to wear her wedding ring during the ongoing proceedings, as does Eamonn. Meanwhile, Eamonn has reportedly started a new relationship with relationship counsellor Katie Alexander, 42.

In a heartfelt interview with Woman and Home magazine, Ruth reflected on her past and how she is moving forward. “I have many regrets, but I try not to dwell on them. You can’t go back and change things,” she shared. “You can just go forward and not make the same mistakes again.”

When asked about her “greatest love,” Ruth quickly gushed about her 22-year-old son, Jack, and their rescue dog, Maggie. “My gorgeous son Jack, who is the most delightful, caring, and wonderful young man. After him, it’s got to be my Maggie, our rescue dog. I thought I never wanted a dog. I didn’t know I could love an animal as much as I love her, but I do,” she declared.

Jack is Ruth’s only child, while Eamonn has three older children from his previous marriage to Gabrielle Holmes. Despite the surprising nature of the split, Ruth’s focus remains on her family and her personal growth during this time of change.

While the separation appears permanent, relationship expert Jesper Jensen, from ExpertsEnAmour, offered insights into what would be needed if Ruth and Eamonn ever considered reuniting. “Eamonn and Ruth have a history, and sometimes that can work in your favour if both have worked through past issues. For any chance of getting back together, there needs to be a genuine desire to forgive, heal, and rebuild trust,” he explained.

Jesper cautioned that without addressing these key factors, “the same old problems will resurface,” potentially repeating the same mistakes that contributed to their split.

Regarding Eamonn’s fresh start in romance, Jesper added, “When someone is emotionally ready, the timing may not matter as much as it seems. Eamonn’s experience with Ruth will shape his approach with his new partner. If he’s really reflected on his past relationship, this could be a good foundation, but only if both partners are willing to deal with any emotional baggage.”
