Prince Harry makes first statement after losing battle with Home Office

Prince Harry has expressed his determination to continue his legal battle regarding his security arrangements in the UK, following a High Court decision that went against him. The Duke of Sussex is set to challenge a recent ruling that denied him the right to automatic police protection, a decision that was made public on a Wednesday.

In the wake of the judgment, a spokesperson for Prince Harry announced plans to escalate the matter to the Court of Appeal, indicating Harry’s resolve to seek justice in this matter. The prince has chosen to withhold further comments while the legal proceedings are active.

This legal challenge stems from a 2020 decision by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), which informed Prince Harry that he would no longer receive the same level of security protection during his visits to the UK. This decision was made in light of his changed status within the royal family.

Justice Sir Peter Lane, however, in his written judgment, found no fault with Ravec’s decision, effectively dismissing Prince Harry’s appeal because the committee’s decision did not constitute an unlawful act.

This recent legal setback follows another unsuccessful attempt by Prince Harry to overturn the government’s decision prohibiting him from funding his police protection. This sequence of legal challenges highlights the ongoing issues Prince Harry faces regarding his security since stepping back from his senior royal duties and relocating abroad.

The security dispute has garnered significant attention, especially in light of Prince Harry’s expressed desire to bring his family to the UK for visits, a sentiment he shared in light of King Charles III’s health concerns, expressing hope for family reconciliation. The outcome of Prince Harry’s continued legal efforts could have implications for his future visits to the UK and his family’s security arrangements.
