Eamonn Holmes Opens Up About Health Struggles: ‘I Wish I’d Done It Sooner’

Eamonn Holmes appeared in good spirits at a festive event despite his ongoing health struggles, as he used a walking frame to support himself at the TRIC Christmas lunch on December 3. The 65-year-old GB News host, who was celebrating his birthday, walked the red carpet alongside his girlfriend, Katie Alexander, at The Londoner Hotel, where they posed for photos before enjoying the Christmas festivities, according to OK! News.

Despite his upbeat mood, the year has been challenging for the former This Morning host. Eamonn admitted that 2023 has been a “tough year” and he’s looking forward to it coming to an end. Reflecting on his struggles, he said: “It’s been a tough year and I’ll be glad to see the back of it. But there are lots of things to be grateful for and I hope that my health improves next year.”

The star’s health has been a major concern in recent years, and he’s battled numerous issues, particularly with his back. In 2016, he underwent hip replacement surgery after enduring severe pain in his hips, legs, and back for decades, reported by the Mirror. While the surgery improved his mobility, he regrets not having the procedure sooner, calling it “life-changing.”

Eamonn’s spinal issues took a turn for the worse in early 2021, when he experienced excruciating back pain. After getting an MRI scan, he discovered he had three slipped discs, which caused further problems with his right leg. He shared his frustration on social media, stating: “A month ago I did something to my back… I can’t sleep at night.”

By May 2022, his condition worsened, and he was rushed to A&E after his spinal issues caused bladder and bowel problems. After a lengthy stay in hospital, he was advised against surgery due to the high risks involved. However, after hearing from Jo O’Meara, who had undergone successful surgery for similar issues, Eamonn sought treatment from a German surgeon. In September 2022, he underwent a procedure that helped alleviate the pain, although he still struggles with unexpected leg collapses.

Through it all, Eamonn has remained positive, and his appearance at the Christmas event showed that, despite the challenges, he’s determined to stay optimistic for the future.
