Cat Deeley Breaks Down in Tears on This Morning After Unbelievable Limb Donation Story

Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard were left visibly emotional during Wednesday’s This Morning as they listened to one of the most powerful and moving stories ever shared on the show.
Guests Corinne Hutton and Deborah Gosling sat down on the sofa to talk about a story that sounds almost impossible – but it’s heartbreakingly true. Corinne, who lost her hands after a severe battle with sepsis following pneumonia, received a life-changing transplant that allowed her to use her hands again. But what makes the story so incredibly poignant is where those hands came from.
Deborah’s sister, Julie, tragically passed away after suffering a sudden and severe headache. When she began to get confused and slurred her words, Deborah rushed her to hospital – but heartbreakingly, it was too late. Julie died shortly after, leaving her family devastated.

Describing her late sister, Deborah called her a “beautiful soul” – someone kind, caring, and gentle. During their grief, the family made an incredible decision. They agreed to donate Julie’s limbs – and those hands ended up being donated to Corinne.
Now, six years later, Deborah is still able to hold her sister’s hands, even though she’s no longer alive.
The moment was deeply emotional. As the interview ended, Deborah and Corinne held hands on the sofa, a quiet moment that said everything. Deborah smiled through tears and said that her sister’s hands couldn’t have gone to a better person.
Cat and Ben were clearly shaken. After the segment ended, Cat admitted, “Just had a little moment there…” as she wiped away tears during the break. Ben, equally choked up, added, “I thought I’d burst into tears.”
He went on to share how much the story resonated with him personally. “I’ve done a lot of work with the Cystic Fibrosis Trust and they talk a lot about organ donation,” he said. “I’ve got friends that have had loved ones donated… For Corinne to be able to use her hands when she had none, and for Deborah to hold her sister’s hands, who’s no longer with us, it’s just the most extraordinary thing.”
Corinne also opened up about life after the transplant. While her sense of feeling in the hands isn’t fully clear – sometimes she can’t quite tell which finger hurts – she said she’s just “so grateful.” The transplant has changed her life.
And it wasn’t just Corinne who benefitted. Julie’s organs were also donated, and her gift ended up saving four other lives.
Ben summed it up simply: “I just think it’s miraculous.”
It was one of those rare moments on daytime TV that truly hits you – a reminder of just how powerful organ and limb donation can be, and how love, even in the darkest times, can keep giving.
