Asics Unveils the Revolutionary Nimbus Mirai, the Brand’s Most Sustainable Running Shoe Yet
Asics has introduced the Nimbus Mirai, its most circular and environmentally friendly performance running shoe to date, designed for complete recyclability to support the company’s zero-carbon ambitions by 2050. This innovative shoe combines advanced technology with sustainable practices, ensuring that it does not sacrifice quality or performance.
Crafted with the future in mind, the Nimbus Mirai features a uniform polyester upper with no overlays, streamlining the recycling process once the shoe reaches the end of its lifecycle. The shoe is designed to be easily disassembled, with the upper detaching cleanly from the sole, ensuring that 87.3 percent of the material can be effectively recycled into new polyester products.
In an industry-first, Asics has also developed a unique glue used in the Nimbus Mirai that not only provides a robust bond essential for running but is also designed to be easily separated for recycling. This glue is pivotal in the shoe’s design ethos of ensuring that each component can be reused, reducing waste and environmental impact.
The Nimbus Mirai’s midsole features the FF Blast Plus Eco, offering plush, cloud-like cushioning while being made from about 24 percent renewable materials, including by-products from sugar cane processing. This innovative approach to materials highlights Asics’ commitment to reducing its reliance on non-renewable resources.
As part of its launch, Asics has introduced a return program encouraging users to bring back their worn Nimbus Mirai shoes to Asics stores or send them through mail in several international markets, including the UK, the Netherlands, and France. This initiative is designed to ensure that every shoe can be remade into new running gear, aligning with the company’s circularity goals.
Fumitaka Kamifukumoto, the project leader for the Nimbus Mirai at Asics, emphasized the dual commitment to performance and sustainability. “The Nimbus Mirai represents a significant step forward in our mission to combine top-tier product performance with environmental consciousness. We invite runners to join us in this journey by returning their shoes at the end of their running life, enabling us to continue pushing the boundaries of what is possible in eco-friendly sportswear.”
Priced at 180 pounds, 200 euros, or 180 US dollars, the Nimbus Mirai is available for both men and women at Asics retail and online stores, offering runners around the globe a high-performance shoe that supports both their fitness goals and the planet.
