This Morning’s Isla Traquair Offers to Test Bizarre Spanish Laws: ‘I’ll Take This One On!’

Reporter Isla Traquair recently jetted off to Tenerife to search for Jay Slater, and now she’s offered to fly to Spain again to test out some of the country’s bizarre new laws.

During a segment on “This Morning,” Isla left fans gobsmacked when she volunteered to urinate in the sea to see how Spanish authorities would enforce a new law. Isla was chatting with hosts Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond about Spanish cops planning to fine people who attempt to reserve sunbeds on beaches before 9:30 a.m. They’ve also revealed plans to fine holidaymakers who urinate in the sea off the Costa del Sol.

Isla questioned how these laws would be enforced and offered to test them out herself. She’s known for her hands-on approach to journalism, including her recent trip to Tenerife to search for Jay Slater. Now, she’s planning another trip to Spain.

Speaking on the program, Dermot revealed, “Sunbed hoggers to receive a €250 fine from Spanish police. I don’t know how they’re going to do this. Spanish police say they’re going to give tourists a fine for reserving sunbeds on the Costa Blanca before 9:30.”

Isla responded enthusiastically, “Well, we did the story last week about you getting fined if you do a widdle in the sea, and I’d already volunteered for that job so I’ll take this one on at the same time!”

She then proposed a hypothetical scenario to highlight the difficulty of enforcing the sunbed reservation fines: “You go out, commando crawl at 5 a.m., pop your book, towel, and a wet swimsuit – the wet swimsuit is the key.”

Gyles Brandreth added, “The wet swimsuit implies you’ve already been out for your swim, you’ve already been there. Then people think, oh they’re just drying!”
