Creative Director Michael Rider to Leave Polo Ralph Lauren

Michael Rider, the creative director of Polo Ralph Lauren Women’s, announced his departure from the Ralph Lauren-owned brand at the end of May. Rider, who joined Ralph Lauren in 2018, played a pivotal role in revitalizing the Polo line. According to a statement from the company published in Vogue Business, Rider decided to leave Ralph Lauren after six years. The US label has yet to respond to inquiries from FashionUnited.

Rider’s successor, Karen Brown, has already been appointed. Brown, a designer with 18 years of experience at Ralph Lauren, has been instrumental in repositioning Women’s Polo alongside Rider, according to Vogue Business. Her extensive background with the brand positions her well to continue the work Rider started.

While the leadership transition at Polo Ralph Lauren is clear, Rider’s future remains uncertain, sparking speculation in the fashion industry. Since April, rumors have suggested that Hedi Slimane, the creative director of Celine, might vacate his post amid “delicate contract negotiations,” as reported by Business of Fashion and other industry magazines.

Rider has been named as a potential successor to Slimane at Celine, a rumor intensified by his sudden departure from Ralph Lauren. If these speculations prove true, Rider’s move to Celine would mark a significant return to familiar territory.
