While other parts of the country are under weather warnings issued by the Met Office, London has thus far avoided direct alerts, but remains on alert for adverse weather.

Southern England and Northern Ireland are expected to bear the brunt of Storm Nelson, with winds reaching up to 70mph in some areas.

Heavy rain is anticipated to begin in London around 2am on Thursday and persist into the early morning hours, with a resurgence predicted around 11am. The Met Office forecasts several hours of heavy rainfall followed by lighter showers throughout the day, accompanied by high winds peaking around midday on Thursday and gradually tapering off by evening.

Friday is expected to continue the wet weather pattern in the capital, with a mix of light and heavy showers likely to persist into the afternoon, along with moderately high winds.

A yellow wind warning is in effect for the south and southwest coast of England from 7am to 6pm on Thursday, with gusts of up to 50mph expected inland and even stronger winds of 60 to 70mph in exposed coastal areas. Large waves are also anticipated, posing potential hazards along the coastline from East Sussex to Penzance, including the Isle of Wight and parts of the north Cornish coast.

In addition, a yellow rain warning covers the eastern part of Northern Ireland from 7am to 5pm on Thursday, with heavy rainfall posing potential impacts on travel and infrastructure in the region.

Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during the storm.
