Women Distracted Man Before Stealing £4,000: Police Seek Help

Police are seeking information after a group of women allegedly distracted a man in a wheelchair and stole thousands of pounds from him in Warrington. CCTV images of the women have been released by the Warrington Town Centre Beat Team as part of the investigation.

According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 14, after the man withdrew £4,000 from Barclays Bank on Market Gate. The women reportedly followed him to his car in Legh Street Golden Square Park. While the man was placing his wheelchair into the car, the women are said to have distracted him and taken the money, told Liverpool Echo.

Following the theft, it is believed that the group hailed a taxi, which took them to the Whitworth Street area off Manchester Road. Warrington Police stated that the taxi was in the area at around 12:05 p.m. The authorities also suggested that the suspects are not local to the area.

In a Facebook post, Warrington Police issued a warning to the public: “Please be aware of your surroundings when withdrawing money. If something is suspicious, go to the bank or nearest business and call the police straight away.”

The incident has raised concerns in the local community, with residents urged to stay vigilant, particularly when handling large sums of money. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are hopeful that the release of the CCTV images will help identify the suspects involved in the theft.
