Princess Kate and Prince William Prioritise a Balance between Hobbies and Screen Time for Their Children

Prince William and Princess Kate are deeply committed to their roles as parents, dedicating significant time to nurturing a range of hobbies for their children—Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6. Their focus is on encouraging creativity and ensuring their children’s overall well-being through a variety of activities.

Active and energetic, the young royals participate in several sports, including tennis, rugby, and football. However, the Prince and Princess of Wales also place great emphasis on developing their children’s creative talents. William has acknowledged that Kate often takes the lead when it comes to fostering the arts in their household.

Interestingly, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, the two youngest, share a particular hobby that they both enjoy immensely—watching films. However, this pastime doesn’t capture Prince George’s interest in the same way. During a visit to BAFTA’s new headquarters in 2022, the Prince of Wales disclosed that he and Kate share an enthusiasm for this hobby, but also face challenges in managing it as parents.

William explained that while he and Kate enjoy films and gaming themselves, they are mindful of the impact of screen time on their children. “At the moment it’s trying to regulate the gaming… monitoring screen time. Got to be careful of that,” he said, adding that George, in particular, shows a keen interest. “They’re fascinated by it. George particularly. He’s more interested in it. The other two are a bit too small at the moment but they love the films. I adore film and gaming as well”, told The Mirror.

The couple’s efforts to manage their children’s screen time highlight a parenting approach many can relate to. William’s visit to BAFTA was not only about sharing his parenting experiences but also about launching a new bursary in his name, designed to provide funding for junior creatives working in film and gaming—fields he personally supports and enjoys.

This concern over screen time isn’t new for the couple. Kate and William are known for being cautious about technology use within their household, even going so far as to ban iPads for their children when they were younger. According to Us Weekly, an anonymous source close to the couple revealed, “They’re very much seen as Mummy and Daddy’s toys, not for children.”

“As two people who grew up without gadgets for entertainment themselves, William and Kate are firm believers in toys, outdoor play, and encouraging an active imagination,” the source continued. The royal couple’s approach underscores their commitment to balancing modern technology with traditional play, aiming to provide their children with a well-rounded upbringing.
