Teenager Among Six Detained for Alleged Theft of £1.8M in Steel Plates in Stockport

In a significant police operation in Stockport, a 14-year-old boy along with five other individuals were apprehended following the reported theft of steel plates valued at £1.8 million from a local business. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday (January 8), prompted a rapid response from the authorities.

The theft was reported at a business located on Cromer Street, Portwood, around 5.20 am. Police responded to the burglary alert and discovered that steel plates worth approximately £1.8 million had been stolen. An extensive investigation was immediately initiated.

The suspects, ranging in age from 14 to 46, were subsequently detained on suspicion of burglary. They are currently being held for questioning.

Detective Inspector Shifa Chowdhury of the Greater Manchester Police’s Stockport Criminal Investigation Department commented on the arrests, emphasizing the department’s dedication to addressing such crimes. “These arrests reflect the swift and efficient action of our officers on the ground and mark a significant stride in our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of the Stockport community,” said DI Chowdhury.

He further added, “Our team’s coordinated efforts led to the successful apprehension of the suspects. We are continuing our investigation and urge anyone with relevant information or video footage to come forward and assist the police.
