Sky News Presenter Caught Watching Reality TV Live During Budget Coverage

Sky News Australia’s Sharri Markson may have been all business on Tuesday, but eagle-eyed Instagram followers spotted something a little unexpected in the background of her latest post. While she was busy covering one of the year’s biggest political stories—the Federal Budget—viewers couldn’t help but notice a certain reality show sneaking into the frame behind her, reported the Express.

In snaps shared to her Instagram, Sharri, 41, looked polished and professional as she posed in the Sky News Canberra studio. But there, just behind her, was a TV screen showing what looked unmistakably like an episode of Married at First Sight—and not just any moment, either. It featured the notoriously fiery couple Awhina Rutene and Adrian Araouzou’s mid-bedroom bust-up, or at least that’s what it seemed like. It’s a bit of a contrast to all the fiscal chat going on up front!

To be fair, it’s been an intense week for political reporters, with wall-to-wall coverage of Australia’s budget revealing major tax cuts and cost-of-living support. Who can blame someone for needing a sneaky dose of MAFS drama to break up the spreadsheets and economic forecasts?

And it’s not just Australia that’s been deep in budget talk. Over in the UK, all eyes are on Labour’s Rachel Reeves as she gets ready to unveil her highly anticipated spring statement today. After Prime Minister’s Questions, Reeves is set to take the floor in the Commons at 12.30 pm to deliver what could be a game-changing update on the nation’s finances.

There’s been a lot of chatter already about what’s coming. The Office for Budget Responsibility is expected to lower its growth forecast, which will put even more pressure on Reeves as she tries to steady the ship. One of the headline takeaways? More spending cuts. Several government departments are bracing for tighter budgets as the Chancellor looks for ways to balance the books without stalling recovery.

One major investment, though, is set to come in the form of defence. Reeves will confirm an extra £2.2 billion for military spending, citing the need for national security in what she calls a “more insecure world.” But with benefit cuts already announced last week, and more potentially on the table today, there’s sure to be backlash as she tries to make good on her vow to “go further and faster to kick-start growth.”

It’s a huge day in Westminster, and things are only just warming up. Whether you’re watching for the policy or the politics, you can follow all the action on the Daily Express live blog. And maybe keep an eye on the background screens—just in case any more MAFS moments make an appearance.
