Scrutiny Surrounds Meghan Markle’s Feminist Claims

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, recently found herself under scrutiny for her self-proclaimed identity as a feminist, a label prominently displayed on her newly launched website, Sussex.com, which she and Prince Harry unveiled just two days prior. On the website’s About section, Meghan boldly asserts herself as a “feminist” and a “champion of human rights and gender equity,” sparking both admiration and skepticism from the public.

The controversy surrounding Meghan’s feminist stance gained momentum when prominent TV host Megyn Kelly raised doubts about its authenticity during a live television discussion. Kelly criticized Meghan, alleging that her behavior, including reported tantrums and tirades, had led to the departure of several female staff members.

In a candid conversation on The Megyn Kelly Show with Daily Mail columnist Maureen Callahan, Kelly vehemently expressed her disbelief in Meghan’s feminist credentials, using her alleged treatment of female staff as evidence to support her claims.

Kelly’s critique extended to Meghan’s interactions with royal traditions and figures. She suggested that true feminism involves showing respect and appreciation for individuals like the Queen, who have dedicated their lives to service. Kelly pointed to instances such as a controversial curtsy captured in a Netflix special, interpreting it as a display of contempt rather than respect.

Maureen Callahan echoed Kelly’s sentiments, asserting that Meghan’s actions do not align with the principles of feminism, especially in light of her reported treatment of female staff members and her perceived attitude towards established royal customs and figures.

The discussion surrounding Meghan Markle’s feminism has ignited a broader conversation about the complexities of modern feminism and the expectations placed on public figures like Meghan to authentically embody these ideals. It underscores the ongoing debate about the intersection of personal beliefs, public persona, and societal expectations in the realm of feminism.
