Ranvir Singh Apologizes for Tim Minchin’s Slip-Up on ITV’s Lorraine

Ranvir Singh, guest-hosting ITV’s Lorraine on Friday, had to issue an apology after an unexpected swear word slipped out during an interview with musician and Matilda the Musical composer Tim Minchin.

During the conversation, which was intended to focus on Tim’s career and his book You Don’t Have To Have A Dream: Advice for the Incrementally Ambitious, the interview took an unexpected turn when Tim, 48, accidentally used the word “b******s” while discussing tours and ticket prices.

Ranvir, 47, quickly stepped in, addressing the audience and apologizing for the language: “Oh hello, we got there and you said it. Apologies for the swearing!” Earlier in the segment, the interview had been lighthearted as Tim jokingly commented on feeling discomfort in his eyes after a previous discussion about eye health. Ranvir playfully encouraged him to adjust his contacts if needed, reports Daily Record.

Tim Minchin has had an emotional year. In 2023, during a performance of his show An Unfunny Evening with Tim Minchin and his Piano in Sydney, he shared devastating personal news. After receiving a standing ovation, Tim returned for an encore and revealed to the audience: “My mum died yesterday,” leaving the crowd in shock.

Despite his grief, Tim continued with the show, performing his well-known song White Wine in the Sun, where his voice faltered during the emotional lyrics: “I’ll be seeing my dad, my brother, and sisters, my gran and my mum … they’ll be drinking white wine in the sun.” He concluded the performance by asking the audience to join him in singing Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. The theatre dimmed the lights as the audience, many in tears, quietly sang along.

Throughout the evening, Tim shared personal stories, including anecdotes about his mother, Ros, who had been diagnosed with terminal blood cancer in 2020. He also performed songs from Matilda the Musical, Groundhog Day the Musical, and his album So F**ing Rock*, many of which had special meaning tied to his mother’s memory.
