A Zimbabwean student, newly arrived in the UK, has been subjected to bullying and a violent assault in Carlisle, according to his mother. The incident, deemed a suspected hate crime by the police, involved the Black student being physically attacked and demeaned by a white teenager, an event that was distressingly captured on video and widely shared on social media. The victim’s mother disclosed to The Independent that the assault was witnessed by his younger sister, leaving both siblings severely traumatized.

The confrontation escalated when a schoolmate provoked the victim during a break, leading to an ambush by the aggressor and his accomplices, one of whom was not a student at the local school.
