Prince William Surprises Harry and Meghan with New Documentary

Prince William has taken many by surprise, including his brother Prince Harry and sister-in-law Meghan Markle, with the announcement of his upcoming documentary. The Prince of Wales is set to release his new two-part film, Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, on Disney+ this November 1st, a platform rivaling the Sussexes’ previous collaborations, via GB News.

This documentary, offering a behind-the-scenes look at Prince William’s Homewards initiative under The Royal Foundation, will focus on efforts to change perceptions around homelessness and demonstrate that ending it is possible. Directed by BAFTA award-winning director Leo Burley and executive produced by Mindhouse and Arron Fellows, the film is expected to highlight the Prince’s dedication to tackling social issues close to his heart.

The release comes four years after Harry and Meghan’s high-profile move to the U.S., where they signed lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify. Their partnership with Spotify, however, ended in the summer of 2023 after Meghan’s podcast Archetypes concluded with only 12 episodes.

William’s move to partner with Disney+ for this project, while Harry and Meghan continue their collaboration with Netflix, has been seen as a bold step by the Prince, diverging from the Sussexes’ streaming choices. Ahead of the Disney+ debut, the documentary will have an exclusive UK premiere on ITV, aiming to bring more local awareness to the homelessness crisis.

This shift in platforms has sparked renewed attention and even speculation on the dynamic between the royal brothers. Some commentators view it as a new chapter in William’s public initiatives, separate from Harry and Meghan’s ventures in the U.S.

The film represents William’s commitment to his Homewards programme, launched by The Royal Foundation, which he hopes will not only change public perceptions but also inspire action toward ending homelessness in the UK. As William pushes forward with this cause, his choice to feature the project on Disney+ may mark a significant expansion of his reach to audiences both in the UK and abroad.

For many observers, William’s latest move reflects his proactive stance on important issues, highlighting a cause he has championed with The Royal Foundation. As anticipation builds for the documentary’s release, it’s clear that Prince William: We Can End Homelessness aims to spark meaningful discussions on a global scale, showcasing a side of the Prince that is deeply focused on effecting real social change.
