Prince Harry’s Memoir Criticised as a Mistake by Royal Experts for Revealing Family Grievances

Prince Harry’s decision to publish his memoir Spare in 2023 has drawn harsh criticism from royal experts, who argue that his revelations about King Charles and Prince William were misguided. According to royal commentator Jennie Bond, the Duke of Sussex made a mistake by airing such personal grievances in his autobiography.

“It was deplorable and stupid—I think he was a very silly boy to write Spare,” Bond stated. She expressed her disapproval of Harry’s approach, adding, “But then to go and start being really nasty about the royal family just to make money…”

Bond compared Harry’s actions to those of Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne and became the Duke of Windsor. “When Edward VIII abdicated and moved abroad, he never, ever said anything about the royal family—he might have met Hitler, but he didn’t say a word about the royal family.”

Adding to Bond’s comments, fellow royal expert Arthur Edwards noted, “He wanted to leave the royal family and live in America with Meghan—that’s his choice.” Edwards implied that while it’s Harry’s prerogative to step away from royal duties, publicizing private family matters in his book was not a wise decision.

Despite the backlash, Prince Harry made a recent appearance at the WellChild Awards in the UK, where he seemed in good spirits. A source close to the event observed, “He always came alive at events like this, but lately he has seemed quite glum. He was on good form, full of energy, and seemed quite happy to be on his own.”

Harry’s memoir has certainly sparked controversy, and the opinions of royal experts suggest that his decision to write it may have done more harm than good. As he continues his journey outside of the royal family, public scrutiny remains high, with many questioning the long-term impact of his revelations.
