Nando’s Employee Speaks Out After Being Walloped with a Plate in Unprovoked Attack

A Nando’s employee in Stratford, east London, has publicly voiced her frustration and disappointment with the Metropolitan Police after an “unprovoked” attack at work. The incident, which occurred earlier this year, resurfaced this week when footage of the shocking encounter went viral on social media, via Tha Daily Mail.

In the video, the employee, who has since shared her story in a seven-minute video online, is seen placing a plate of food on a table. Suddenly, a man sitting at the table, wearing a black beanie and dark hoodie, lashes out, striking her across the face with the plate. The force of the blow sends the stunned waitress reeling backward, leaving viewers horrified.

Following the incident, Nando’s immediately reported the attack to the police. However, the employee has expressed deep dissatisfaction with how the situation was handled by law enforcement. “Before explaining [what happened], I want to say what’s more concerning than the mass behavior was the failure of the Metropolitan Police and their conduct,” she stated in her video. “I was grossly let down by them.”

She further elaborated on her disappointment, explaining that while the police have now reopened the investigation, it was only due to the widespread attention the video received online. “Thanks for all of the support and the attention it’s been receiving online. And for that, I’m grateful. However, I was really disappointed and let down with what happened at the time with the police.”

The Metropolitan Police have since acknowledged the incident and the mishandling of the initial report. A spokesperson for the Met Police told The Mirror, “We are aware of a video circulating online showing an incident in a branch of Nando’s in Stratford which took place in March. A report of assault was made to police at the time of the incident, however, it appears this was not progressed promptly by officers.”

The spokesperson continued, “We are working to establish why this happened and accept this is not the level of service Londoners should rightfully expect from the Met. We have since made contact with the victim and a statement has been taken – we will endeavor to keep her updated with the progress of this investigation.”

No arrests have been made yet, but the police have stated that inquiries are ongoing to locate the man involved. Nando’s has also expressed its support for the employee, stating, “This was a shocking and unprovoked attack earlier this year. We reported it to the police immediately and have supported our colleague since. We will not tolerate this kind of behavior; the safety of our colleagues and customers is our priority.”

As the investigation continues, the employee’s experience highlights the importance of accountability and proper handling of such incidents by law enforcement, especially when public safety is at stake.
