Murder Charge Following Discovery of Body in Stratford Shopping Centre Car Park

A body was found in the early hours of Wednesday in the car park of Stratford Centre, leading to a murder investigation. The identity of the victim is still being confirmed.

41-year-old Vasile Gorghescu from Southampton was apprehended on Wednesday and subsequently charged with murder the following day. He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

This development follows a report to Hampshire Police by a concerned individual suspecting harm to someone in London. The Metropolitan Police were then notified on Tuesday.

Chief Superintendent Simon Crick of Newham stated: “The Stratford Centre is a daily destination for many locals, and we understand the worry this incident may cause to shoppers and retailers. We want to assure the public that an arrest has been made. However, if anyone has information that could assist our investigation, we encourage them to come forward.”

The police urge anyone with relevant information to contact them at 101 with the reference CAD 4130/09Jan. For those preferring anonymity, Crimestoppers can be contacted at 0800 555 111.
