47-Year-Old Mum-of-Five Dies Suddenly After Developing Flu Symptoms Over Christmas, Shocking Tragedy

A mum-of-five, Kellie Alexander, tragically passed away on December 27, just a day after celebrating her 47th birthday. Described as an “amazing” woman who “would have done anything for anybody,” Kellie’s unexpected death has left her family and friends devastated, as reported by the Mirror.

Originally from Scotland, Kellie had lived in Belfast for over 20 years with her wife, Angela. She had grown-up children in Scotland and younger ones in Belfast, including a baby just over a year old. Kellie’s close friend Donna Godfrey, who is raising funds to cover funeral expenses, described her as a “breath of fresh air” and an “aunty to everybody’s kids.”

Kellie fell ill on Christmas Eve and was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Donna explained, “It was so unexpected. She was blue-lighted to the hospital on Christmas Eve. We thought she would be okay and then, the next thing, she was gone.”

Kellie had previously battled throat cancer, which was in remission, but she faced other health challenges. “She fell ill with the flu that’s been going around,” Donna said. “For someone with her illnesses, it can be more serious. It was so hard, even for Angela, to have to get her an ambulance on Christmas Eve.”

Paying tribute to her late friend, Donna said:
“She was amazing. She was just a breath of fresh air. She was an aunty to everybody’s kids. You were family to her. She would have done anything for anybody. She would have given you the shirt off her back. Kids were her life, everybody’s kids. It’s heartbreaking that her youngest won’t hear his mummy talk”, reports Belfast Live.

The sudden loss has left Angela struggling emotionally and financially, especially as funeral costs have added to the hardship during an already difficult time. Donna explained, “Angela can’t work, and it’s so hard for her. It’s just after Christmas, and it’s all just hit her. Funeral costs aren’t easy, and it’s just one of those things. I offered to do a GoFundMe, and Angela said okay.”

Kellie had worked as a carer in a care home before dedicating herself to her family. Donna expressed the collective grief of those who knew her, saying, “It’s really hard. It’s heartbreaking, especially at this time of year—it’s just awful.” A fundraising campaign has been launched to help ease the burden on Angela and honor Kellie’s memory.
