Mother Charged with Murder After Death of Six-Year-Old Son

A tragic incident in Swansea has left a community in shock as 41-year-old Karolina Zurawska has been charged with the murder of her six-year-old son, Alexander Zurawski. The devastating events unfolded last Thursday when young Alexander was found dead at a property in Cwm Du Close, Gendros.

Zurawska is also facing charges of attempted murder related to a separate incident involving a 67-year-old man on the same day. Authorities have confirmed that they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the case.

Ch Supt Chris Truscott, the divisional commander for Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, described the incident as “distressing” and a “tremendous shock” to the local community. He expressed gratitude for the community’s support during the investigation and assured residents that a police presence would remain in the area to provide reassurance.

Alexander’s family, heartbroken by the loss, released a poignant statement through the police, describing him as a “very kind child” who was always well-behaved, mature beyond his years, and eager to help. “He loved playing with his little sister and playing with his dog Daisy,” they shared. “Alexander was always helpful, always eager to assist with cooking and cleaning. He was amazing.”

The family also thanked the emergency services who responded to the tragic incident.

The grief extends to Alexander’s school, Whitestone Primary, where Headteacher Bethan Peterson expressed deep sorrow over the loss. “Alexander was a delightful, determined little boy whose tenacity and positive demeanor ensured his success in all he undertook,” she said. “He was an extremely loved and popular boy among his peers, staff, and with all who knew him. He will be sadly missed.”

Peterson added that appropriate support would be provided to those in the school community affected by the tragedy and asked for privacy during this difficult time.

As Zurawska prepares to face the city’s magistrates court, the community remains in mourning, grappling with the loss of a bright and beloved young boy.
