Miranda Hart Reveals Her Secret Marriage to Building Company Boss Richard Fairs

Comedian and actress Miranda Hart has revealed that she secretly married building company boss Richard Fairs. In her new book, I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest with You, Hart disclosed her romance with Fairs, which blossomed during the Covid pandemic. Throughout the book, she referred to her husband as “the boy from Bristol” and “the mould man,” as they first met when he was hired to remove mould from her home. Until recently, she had kept his identity under wraps.

Hart, 51, also opened up about her battle with Lyme disease, which has left her suffering from chronic fatigue and unable to work on television for a period. Despite this struggle, she shared the joyful news of her marriage to 60-year-old Fairs, who is a surveyor and owner of The Building Consultancy. According to The Sun, the couple married in July 2023 in a quiet ceremony at St Peter and St Paul church in Hambledon, Hampshire, followed by a Hawaiian-themed celebration.

Rumors about Hart’s marriage surfaced earlier this year when she was photographed on a bike ride near Hammersmith Bridge with a man, sparking speculation that he might be her husband. This week, Hart appeared on The One Show to confirm her marriage, debuting her gold wedding ring. “I’ve got my best friend to do life with, and it’s wonderful,” she said, adding, “The fact that I could meet somebody – it’s not a rom-com story but it’s hope, and that’s why I think, whatever situation you’re in, there’s always hope that things really do change.”

Hart also teased her Instagram followers by sharing a video of herself holding hands with her husband as they left BBC Broadcasting House together. Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Hart revealed, “The reason I put this little love story of mine in [the book] was mainly because at the beginning of the book, yeah, I’m alone. I’m bed-bound by this illness.” She explained that during that difficult time, she realized she didn’t want to be alone anymore.

Fairs proposed to Hart in January during a walk around Kew Gardens, where he asked her to marry him by a bridge overlooking the lake. In her book, Hart recalled the emotional moment: “I simply burst out crying, apparently saying yes before he had finished the sentence.”

Reflecting on her midlife marriage, Hart said, “I really recommend it, honestly, getting married in the midlife is a full injection of joy and fun. It’s the best.”
