UK Braces for Sudden 22C Heatwave as Weather Maps Turn Red

Get ready to ditch the winter coats — Britain is about to bask in an early spring heatwave, with temperatures soaring to a sizzling 22°C this week. Weather maps show warm air sweeping across the country, and forecasters are urging people to enjoy the sunshine — but also to stay protected as the sudden shift could catch many off guard.
After a frosty start to the year, with January bringing snow and school closures across the country, things are finally heating up. According to WXCHARTS, parts of the UK could see highs of 19°C to 22°C by Thursday, April 3, marking a dramatic turnaround as spring kicks into full swing.
The rise in temperature will begin midweek and steadily climb. Tuesday is expected to bring highs of 19°C, increasing to 20°C on Wednesday, before peaking at a delightful 22°C on Thursday.

And it’s not just southern regions getting a taste of the sunshine. On Friday, April 4, at 3pm, a wind chill map reveals that cities like Manchester, London, Southampton, and areas across the Midlands will see balmy highs of up to 18°C. By 6pm that day, London and much of southern England will still be enjoying a toasty 19°C. Wales and parts of the Midlands are also set to enjoy the warmer conditions.
A Met Office forecast covering April 2 to April 4 confirms: “High pressure continues to bring widely dry and fine conditions this week. Plenty of warm sunshine by day, but chillier by night. Generally breezier than of late.”
While most will be welcoming the sunshine, the Met Office is reminding people not to be complacent. Temperatures may be rising fast during the day, but nights could still bring a chill — so don’t pack away the blankets just yet.
The unexpected warmth is a welcome change after months of grey skies and biting cold. The early-year snowfall had brought chaos, with icy roads, travel disruption, and hundreds of schools forced to close. Now, however, the long-awaited sun seems ready to make up for lost time.
If you’re planning to head outdoors, it might be time to stock up on sunscreen, as UV levels could start to climb with the clearer skies. With the Easter holidays in full swing, it’s the perfect moment for a family picnic, a stroll in the park, or even a garden BBQ.
Whether you’re in the south basking in near-summer conditions or up north enjoying milder but still pleasant weather, one thing’s clear: spring has finally sprung — and it’s not holding back.
Check your local forecast now — sunshine might be closer than you think.
