Melanie Sykes Speaks Out Against Gregg Wallace’s Behavior on MasterChef Set

TV and radio presenter Melanie Sykes has become the latest celebrity to speak out against MasterChef host Gregg Wallace, who recently stepped down from the show amid allegations of inappropriate behavior. Wallace, who denies the claims, is under investigation after several complaints were made against him.

Melanie, who appeared on Celebrity MasterChef in 2021, revealed in her autobiography Illuminated that she had made an informal complaint about Wallace’s behavior on set, reports The Telegraph. In the book, she describes the experience as “jaw-dropping,” writing: “The MasterChef experience continued to be an eye-opener, and some unprofessional behavior on set was jaw-dropping.”

In a video shared on her YouTube this week, Melanie expanded on her experience, explaining that she never felt comfortable around Wallace. “Every time Gregg came over to the desk, I didn’t really like him being around really because it’s all about vibrations and energy,” she said. She also used the platform to criticize the BBC and production companies for failing to address what she sees as unprofessional behavior. In the caption of her video, Melanie wrote: “If Production Companies and channels facilitate unprofessionalism ie ignore it, they too are a massive part of the problem.”

Melanie also recounted how Wallace’s comments during their time together on the show influenced her decision to step back from TV. She wrote in her book that Wallace allegedly told her the show would “do a lot” for her, which led her to think, “Yes, you have finally helped me decide to end my television career once and for all” according to OK!.

Melanie joins several other prominent figures, including Ulrika Jonsson and Kirstie Allsopp, who have also spoken out about their experiences with Wallace. This week, 13 individuals have made allegations against the MasterChef host, prompting a formal investigation.

In response to the growing allegations, Wallace posted an apology on Instagram. “I want to apologize for any offence that I caused with my post yesterday and any upset I may have caused to a lot of people,” he said. Wallace explained that he had been under significant stress and had posted the message in an emotionally charged state. “It’s obvious to me I need to take some time out now while this investigation is under way,” he added, hoping his apology would be accepted by those affected.
