Meghan Markle ‘snubbed by Kate’s sister’ over fears she’d ‘overshadow’ special day

Planning a wedding often involves difficult decisions, especially when it comes to the guest list. Pippa, the Princess of Wales’s sister, faced such a challenge during her wedding preparations six years ago.

When Pippa married James Matthews, the event was star-studded with young royals, including Prince George as a pageboy and Princess Charlotte as a bridesmaid. Naturally, Kate and Prince William, along with their children, were present, except for Prince Louis, who wasn’t born yet.

However, the decision regarding the invitation of Prince Harry and his then-new girlfriend, Meghan Markle, became a point of contention. Their relationship, which remained under wraps for five months, had become public knowledge, causing a media frenzy, reported OK! Magazine.

As per the book “Finding Freedom” by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, Meghan had intended to attend Pippa’s wedding. She even purchased an outfit and a hat for the occasion. However, concerns arose about Meghan potentially overshadowing the wedding, leading to a decision for her not to attend the church ceremony.

Furthering the tension was a controversial headline that compared Meghan and Pippa, which seemed to confirm the couple’s fears about causing a media spectacle. As a result, Meghan’s planned church outfit remained unworn.

On the wedding day, Harry left Meghan at a fellow guest’s Airbnb and attended the church ceremony solo. Meghan readied herself for the evening reception, anticipating a romantic evening with Harry. However, as Scobie and Durand noted, Pippa had arranged seating such that couples were separated.

Despite the hurdles, Pippa, James, and the Middletons were all present at Meghan and Harry’s Windsor Castle wedding a year later. Today, Pippa and James are parents to three children: Arthur, Grace, and Rose.
