Meghan Markle’s Journey From ‘Next Diana’ to a Different Path in the Spotlight

Meghan Markle, once hailed as the potential ‘next Diana’ by royal commentators, has experienced a transformative journey under public scrutiny. This comparison, initially flattering, revealed complexities and challenges as Meghan’s role in the royal family evolved.

Charlotte Griffiths, Daily Mail editor, discussed with GB News the dynamics between Meghan and other royal figures, including Kate, Duchess of Sussex. Mark Dolan, the host, highlighted the initial excitement within the British press at Meghan’s entrance. “Fleet Street was ecstatic, seeing Meghan as a refreshing change, potentially filling the role Diana once held in public affection,” he remarked.

However, Griffiths offered a nuanced view: “The excitement around Meghan as a new, glamorous figure was palpable, but it wasn’t solely about her being the ‘new Diana’. It was more about her bringing a fresh dynamic to the royal narrative.”

Meghan’s decision to step back from royal duties, and move to the U.S. with Prince Harry, marked a significant turn in their public narrative. While Prince Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’ achieved commercial success, it also strained his royal relationships, already impacted by various candid interviews.

Meghan, on her part, faced her challenges. Her podcast, despite initial promise, was discontinued by Spotify after just 12 episodes, a decision that left her reportedly disappointed.

This journey of Meghan Markle, from being seen as a potential successor to Princess Diana’s legacy to forging her own, albeit turbulent, path in the public eye, underscores the complexities of life under constant media scrutiny.
