Prince Harry Reveals the Truth About Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s Stunning First Meeting in ‘Spare’ Memoir

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s relationship has been a topic of much speculation, particularly regarding their initial interaction, as recounted in Prince Harry’s memoir “Spare.” Harry’s account suggests a somewhat lukewarm first meeting between Meghan and the royal family, which may have influenced the dynamics between Kate and Meghan.

In “Spare,” Prince Harry reveals details about the early stages of Meghan’s introduction to the royal family. He describes an instance where Kate Middleton was not present during his first introduction of Meghan to his brother, Prince William. According to Harry, Kate stayed in the garden with the children, rather than participating in the meeting, a detail that seemed to disappoint him and Meghan.

However, there appears to have been a misinterpretation in the translation of this event in a Spanish version of the book. It was initially translated to suggest that Kate was outside the home, but it was later clarified that she was merely in the garden, indicating her absence from the meeting, regardless of the exact location.

Furthermore, Harry notes that following this initial meeting, Meghan preferred to call Kate by her nickname “Kate,” rather than her full name, Catherine Middleton, which is the name used by the rest of the royal family.

Prince Harry also touches upon the early concerns raised by his brother William about Meghan. In an interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby, Harry recalls William expressing apprehensions about the challenges Meghan might face, though he clarifies that William never tried to dissuade him from marrying her. Harry admits he is still unclear about the specifics of William’s concerns, speculating they might have been related to the anticipated media reaction.

Another interesting revelation in the book involves King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla’s suggestion to Meghan about altering the spelling of her full name to avoid confusion with royal ciphers. They proposed spelling “Catherine with a K” to distinguish her from themselves, as they both use the letter ‘C’. However, it seems this suggestion was not adopted, and “Princess Kate” remains the commonly used title.
