The Daily Beast cited Lady Anne Glenconner, a close royal family friend, stating that Kerry expressed sympathy for Prince Harry during the London event in May.

At a recent literary festival in London, Lady Glenconner, who played a significant role at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation, shared that she had inquired from Kerry about the American perspective on the Sussexes, who had relocated to California in 2020.

Kerry’s response, as quoted by Glenconner, was: “We all feel very, very sorry for Harry.” She also shared her own sentiments of sadness for Harry, while expressing her belief that Meghan perhaps misunderstood the responsibilities of royal life.

Kerry’s spokesperson clarified that his remarks weren’t regarding the couple’s marriage and that Kerry didn’t recall such a conversation. Nevertheless, this situation mirrors the Sussexes’ waning popularity stateside, backed by a YouGov poll showing a decline in their approval ratings.

The poll revealed diminished support for the couple’s decision to leave the UK and also highlighted doubts about their retention of royal titles. Various US media figures, including Tucker Carlson and Bill Maher, have criticized the couple for perceived contradictions in their actions and statements.

Despite these challenges and without commenting on their public perception, the Sussexes have been actively involved in various philanthropic and commercial ventures in the US, including partnering with Netflix and promoting vaccine equity in New York.
