Meghan and Harry urged to mend royal rift amid family’s ‘extremely’ difficult period

In the midst of growing tensions and public scrutiny, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been advised to take a pivotal step to mend their fractured relationship with the Royal Family. As the monarchy navigates an “extremely difficult period,” the Sussexes have been encouraged to reconsider their approach and offer positive remarks about their royal relatives.

Since their move to California in mid-2020, the couple has faced mounting criticism for seemingly profiting from their royal connections while simultaneously speaking out against the institution. The release of Prince Harry’s memoir Spare earlier this year further deepened the divide, casting a shadow over their relationship with the royals. Now, as the paperback version of the memoir is set to be released, there are fears that the content could reignite the already strained situation.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, former editor of International Who’s Who, weighed in on the Sussexes’ ongoing saga. In a recent column for the Express, Fitzwilliams emphasized that healing would require the couple to shift their tone. He stated, “If they really believe what they preach, why don’t they say something positive publicly about the Royal Family? It just might work wonders in helping to heal their rift with it.”

Fitzwilliams also addressed the upcoming release of the paperback edition of Spare, which he believes could add fuel to the fire. He noted that the timing of the release coincides with King Charles and Queen Camilla’s attendance at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa—an event of significant importance, particularly as the monarch navigates his first overseas trip since his cancer diagnosis.

One of the most concerning revelations about the memoir is that Harry had cut 400 pages of material he deemed “too toxic” to include. Fitzwilliams warned that this decision may carry a subtle threat to the Royal Family, indicating that these pages could potentially surface at a later date.

Yet, despite the controversy, Fitzwilliams acknowledged the couple’s charitable contributions. Recently, Prince Harry attended the WellChild Awards in London, a heartfelt event recognizing seriously ill children and their caregivers. Additionally, his visit to Lesotho alongside Prince Seeiso to promote the work of his charity, Sentebale, highlights Harry’s dedication to philanthropy.

Still, Fitzwilliams concluded that the couple’s unpredictability remains a challenge. “The royals, with good reason, do not trust them… Harry and Meghan preach ‘joy,’ but despite their admirable charitable work, their unpredictability, which often manifests itself in hostility, gives their actions a Jekyll and Hyde flavour.”

As tensions continue, the world will be watching to see if the Sussexes can take the crucial step toward reconciliation—or if the rift will only deepen further.
