Meghan and Harry Skip Royal Christmas for California Traditions with Archie and Lilibet

The reasoning behind King Charles III’s decision not to extend an official invitation to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for Christmas at Sandringham has been revealed. According to a report by the Mirror, royal expert Ingrid Seward shed light on the monarch’s considerations.

“King Charles would have loved the opportunity to see his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet,” Seward explained. However, she noted, “he knew inviting Harry and Meghan would have been awkward for the rest of the family.”

Acknowledging the potential tensions, she added, “That is why there was no official invitation.” Despite the lack of an invitation to Sandringham, it was reported that Harry and Meghan were offered an alternative. “Harry and Meghan were invited for Christmas at Althorp with thrice-married Uncle Charles, now Earl Spencer, but have decided to stay in California,” Seward revealed.

The Sussexes’ decision to remain in California appears to reflect Meghan’s desire to create special holiday traditions for their children. “Meghan says it’s important for her that Archie and Lilibet can have ‘connective memories’ of Thanksgiving and Christmas at home and enjoy the traditions like putting out ‘carrots for the reindeer,’” the report noted.

The absence of Harry and Meghan from royal festivities at Sandringham highlights the continued complexities within the family. While King Charles III reportedly hoped to reconnect with his grandchildren, the potential strain of Harry and Meghan’s presence on other family members played a role in the decision-making.

As the Sussexes focus on their family traditions in California, their choices underline the distance—both literal and figurative—between them and the royal household. Meanwhile, the royal family continues to navigate the challenges of maintaining unity amid evolving dynamics.

The decision not to extend an official invitation underscores the balancing act King Charles faces in fostering familial relationships while managing the delicate dynamics of royal life.
