Lynne McGranger ‘Finally Tying the Knot’ with Partner of 40 Years After Home and Away Exit!

Veteran Home and Away actress Lynne McGranger shocked fans last month when she announced her departure from the long-running soap after an impressive 33 years. But rather than stepping into retirement, the 72-year-old may be preparing for another major life milestone—finally tying the knot with her long-time partner, Paul McWaters.

Lynne and Paul have been together for more than 40 years and share a 29-year-old daughter, Clancy. Despite their enduring relationship, the couple has never made it official, but sources suggest that could soon change now that Lynne’s filming schedule is no longer a hurdle, according to Daily Mail.

A close friend revealed to New Idea: “Lynne used to joke that she and Paul would tie the knot when their daughter Clancy got married. She thought the idea of a double wedding was hilarious.”

However, Clancy tied the knot in August 2023, and her parents still remained unmarried. The friend added: “But all that could change now Lynne has more time on her hands. Watch this space.” Lynne has previously spoken about how her romance with Paul began, recalling in a 2014 interview with New Idea: “I invited him round to my place in 1984 [after dinner] and he never went home. Still hasn’t.”

She has also joked about their reluctance to marry, saying: “We always joke and say we’ll do it when we want some white goods, and I’m here to tell you now, we need a new washing machine.”

Saying Goodbye to Summer Bay Lynne’s decision to leave Home and Away marks the end of an era. She first appeared as Irene Roberts in January 1993, taking over the role from Jacquy Phillips, and has since become one of the longest-serving stars in Australian television history. Announcing her exit last month, Lynne described her departure as “bittersweet.”

“After almost 33 years in my dream role and working every day with people whom I love, respect, and consider family, it’s bittersweet to be closing this chapter on the best and longest gig of my life,” she said. She also praised the show’s production team and writers for their dedication and thanked her loyal fans: “Above all, a massive, heartfelt thank you to the fans for your continued love and support.”

A New Chapter for Lynne Explaining her reasons for leaving, Lynne told The Daily Telegraph: “It’s been in my head for a few years. I still have my health, my fitness, and I’d like to branch out again—maybe do some theatre, a bit of radio, or even stand-up comedy.”

Known for her humor, she added: “You either leave voluntarily or leave in a box by the time you’re my age.”

Lynne is set to film her final scenes in March, officially bringing her three-decade journey on Home and Away to a close. Beyond her acting career, Lynne has shared her personal struggles in her 2021 memoir, Acting Up: Me, Myself and Irene, where she opened up about her battles with drug addiction and an eating disorder.

As she moves into this next phase of life, whether it’s theatre, comedy, or finally saying ‘I do’, Lynne McGranger’s next steps will be eagerly followed by her devoted fans.
