ITV News Anchor Lucy Meacock Bids Farewell After 36 Years on Granada Reports

ITV news anchor Lucy Meacock has announced she is “bowing out quietly” after an impressive 36-year career on Granada Reports, marking the end of her tenure during what she describes as the “saddest of weeks.”

In mid-July, it was confirmed that the beloved presenter made the “difficult decision” to “move on” after more than three decades of fronting the North West news program.

Lucy began her broadcasting career at Tyne Tees TV covering the miners’ strike in 1984. Since then, she has become a highly respected presenter and journalist in the North West. Joining during the days of Granada Television, Meacock worked on various programs including UpFront, The Late Debate, The Main Ingredient, Origin Unknown, Hearts and Minds, and This Morning from Liverpool.

In a statement, Lucy said, “This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. But the time is right to move on now. For me, it has always been the best job in the world, with the best people in the world, in the best region in the world.”

She continued, “I am very grateful that I was given this job so many years ago. I have always tried my hardest to make a positive contribution and I hope I will be remembered with some fondness in the years ahead. It has been a complete honor and privilege to serve the people of this region and I will always have the interests of the North West at heart. A big thank you to all the people who have appeared on the program over the years, sometimes when they have been facing some very tough challenges.”

On Wednesday (July 31), Lucy took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to mark the end of her time with Granada Reports. She shared a video of the emotional tributes in Southport following a horrific stabbing attack earlier in the week that claimed the lives of three young girls.

“I will bow out quietly – it’s been the saddest of weeks,” she began. “Like everyone else, my thoughts are only with those little girls who lost their lives in Southport. I have met some of the loveliest people this week and over my 36 years at Granada Reports. It has been a privilege. Thank you.”

Her followers were quick to express their well-wishes. @ethansgrumps said, “You’ll be badly missed, Lucy. Enjoy whatever comes next.” @veefeeley commented, “Missing you already. Good luck in everything you do.” @CathHill2 wrote, “All the best Lucy. So good to see you today, such a shame it was in those circumstances. You always present with such dignity and compassion. You will be missed.”

@JulieSmith2001 replied, “We will miss you, Lucy. What an awful couple of days it’s been. Best wishes to you.” @PaulBooth111 shared, “Lucy, you’ve taken us through highs and lows. Thank you for being a great professional and a wonderful human being.” @DannyH91 added, “Good luck Lucy, thanks for all the years of news and even on your last day being this humble shows how amazing you are.”
