Lucy Beaumont Returns to TV After Split from Jon Richardson: “We’re Still Friends”

Comedian Lucy Beaumont is set to make her television comeback later this month, following her split from husband Jon Richardson. The pair, who share an eight-year-old daughter named Elsie, shocked fans when they announced their separation in April after nine years of marriage.

Beaumont’s special, Lucy Beaumont: Live From The Royal Court Theatre, will air on Sky Comedy on Tuesday, October 22, at 9 pm. The show promises a blend of stand-up comedy featuring “off-beat stories, unusual anecdotes, and bizarre journeys through modern-day womanhood”, told Daily Mail.

Recently, Beaumont has been candid about her split from Richardson in her live shows. While performing at the London Palladium, she joked about Jon’s “disappearance” and revealed that her parents are now separating too. Despite lawyers advising her not to discuss the split, Beaumont couldn’t resist mentioning her former partner, a fellow comedian and team captain on 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

Addressing the audience, she shared an anecdote about raising their daughter: “I tried to bring her up quite spiritual, because that’s how I was brought up, and I was showing her how you burn sage in the living room to get rid of negative energy. And she said, ‘Don’t mummy, daddy will disappear.’” After the audience erupted in laughter, she admitted, “When I wrote that it was a joke but now it sounds like I did. I keep meaning to take it out, but we’re still friends—there’s nothing to worry about.”

Beaumont also revealed that her parents’ marriage is ending. “My daughter’s had this amazing effect on my mum and dad—they don’t really spend much time together; they’re separating—but now they have weekends together.”

Lucy and Jon began dating in 2013 after being introduced by comedian Roisin Conaty. They went on to work together on several shows, including Meet The Richardsons on Dave. Despite their professional and personal partnership, neither has openly discussed the reasons for their split. Reports suggest Jon paid £1.625 million to Lucy for her shares in a company they co-directed, following their divorce agreement.

The couple, who built a £6 million fortune together, released a joint statement confirming their separation: “After nine years of marriage, we would like to announce that we have separated. We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.”

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Lucy expressed her intention to keep her personal life private moving forward, despite the public nature of their marriage. She stated, “I don’t regret anything. But equally, [over] this next stage, I am very much keeping my personal life personal.” She also admitted feeling guilty about sharing details of her family in the past, adding, “I think partly I was feeling grateful that I was getting the work and being interviewed, and feeling like I had to sacrifice and share everything.”

Speaking to OK! Magazine, she reiterated her decision to remain silent on the split: “People might think I should talk about it because we were so public and everyone knew us as a couple, but I won’t. We both agreed that while it might be weird for others not hearing anything about it, we wouldn’t discuss anything to do with the marriage or each other.”

Following the split, old video clips have resurfaced, hinting at possible issues in their marriage. In one clip, Lucy admitted on Jon’s show Ultimate Worrier that she sometimes worried she “made a mistake” marrying Jon due to his stubbornness. In another, she joked during 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown that she didn’t see their marriage lasting forever, prompting a visibly stunned Jon to ask, “Are you breaking up now?”

Despite the humor, these clips have added context to the couple’s recent separation, painting a picture of a relationship that may have been more complicated than it appeared.
