Lucy Beaumont Feels ‘Guilty’ After Divorce from Jon Richardson

Lucy Beaumont has opened up about the guilt she feels following her divorce from fellow comedian Jon Richardson, after nine years of marriage. The comedy couple, who starred together in the hit show Meet The Richardsons, announced their split in April this year, describing the decision as “difficult” but made “jointly and amicably.”

In their public statement, the couple shared, “As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being.” Since the announcement, both Lucy and Jon have remained relatively quiet about their personal lives.

However, Lucy recently broke her silence in an interview with The Sunday Times, confessing that she sometimes feels guilty about how much of her family life had been made public during their marriage. “I don’t regret anything. But equally, [over] this next stage I am very much keeping my personal life personal,” Lucy explained. She added, “I sometimes feel guilty that I talked about my daughter and my marriage, and my mum and my dad.”

Reflecting on why she shared so much in the past, Lucy admitted that it came from a place of gratitude. “I think partly I was feeling grateful, grateful that I was getting the work, grateful that I was being interviewed, and feeling like I had to sacrifice and share everything,” she said.

Now, her main focus is on her daughter, whom she shares with Jon. In a recent interview with OK!, she admitted, “I don’t feel any different really, just a bit angrier and not willing to take any s**t from anyone.” While the public may have expected her to speak more about the breakup, Lucy firmly stated, “People might think I should talk about it because we were so public and everyone knew us as a couple, but I won’t, and not because there’s any animosity.”

Lucy also revealed that she and Jon had agreed to keep the details of their marriage and split private. “We both agreed that while it might be weird for other people not hearing anything about it, we wouldn’t talk about anything to do with the marriage or each other,” she said.

Outside of her personal life, Lucy uses her platform to address the challenges women face in the male-dominated comedy industry. She shared that growing up, she often heard that “women aren’t funny,” a notion she couldn’t understand, as her mother was “the funniest person” she knew.

Despite her own challenges, Lucy remains a strong voice for women in comedy, while navigating her new chapter with her daughter and the life she is determined to protect.
