Lorraine Kelly Shares Heartbreaking News of Choir Member’s Passing on ITV Show

Lorraine Kelly paused her ITV show on Monday morning to share the tragic news of the passing of one of her co-stars. The Scottish host informed viewers that Heather Sawyer, a member of the Change + Check Choir, had died from secondary breast cancer.

The Change + Check Choir was created on the ITV program to commemorate the fifth anniversary of Lorraine’s breast-checking campaign, with singer Joss Stone helping them release their hit song “Golden” in 2023. Heather, who was diagnosed with terminal Stage 4 cancer, was a vibrant part of the choir. Her death, which occurred on October 5th, was announced by her husband on social media, reported Daily Mail.

Lorraine expressed her sadness, telling viewers, “I’m very sorry to have to share some sad news this morning. One of our amazing singers, Heather Sawyer, has died from secondary breast cancer. Heather was only 50 years old, an astonishing woman.” She continued, “She was such a huge part of the choir, so passionate about everything. Amazing.” Dr. Hilary, who appeared alongside Lorraine, added, “Wonderful lady. She sang at the Palladium with the choir, to celebrate the Change + Check campaign.”

Heather’s husband, Lee, shared the heartbreaking news in a post: “Shortly before 1 am this morning, 5th October, Heather lost her fight to cancer and took her last breaths, passing away peacefully. We know just how many people have followed Heather’s journey and how many lives she has touched from the sheer volume of messages, voice notes, and the flood of the #hevupsocials hashtag.”

He added, “We as a family want to thank each and every one of you beautiful people who have visited, sent well wishes, and thought of Heather during this time. It has not gone unnoticed, and we will be forever grateful to each and every one of you as you all made her know just how loved she was in her final days.”

Heather’s cancer had spread to the left side of her brain in her last days, and she was moved to a hospice to make her comfortable. Despite undergoing a mastectomy, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, the 50-year-old, who was a grandmother to 11, ultimately succumbed to the disease.
