The novel, described by Amazon as “feel-good,” tells the story of Evie, who returns to her family home in Orkney after her father falls gravely ill. Evie, estranged from her sister Liv due to a childhood trauma, is met with a frosty reception as she prepares to sell their father’s neglected house. While fans have praised The Island Swimmer for its heartfelt storytelling and vivid setting, journalist Deborah Ross recently questioned the works of celebrity authors. In an article, Ross singled out Jamie Oliver and included Lorraine’s name in a list of famous figures alleged to rely on ghostwriters.

Lorraine, 64, took to Twitter to express her frustration. Sharing the article, she wrote, “So Deborah – really love your writing but FFS – I wrote every feckin word of my novel #theislandswimmer – hardest thing I’ve ever done.” She added, “You’ve really hurt me,” revealing the emotional toll the accusation had taken.
