Michelle Gass Set to Succeed Chip Bergh as Levi’s CEO in 2024

Levi Strauss & Co. has announced the upcoming retirement of their CEO, Chip Bergh, effective April 26, 2024. Bergh, who has led the company for over a decade, will be succeeded by Michelle Gass, the current president of Levi’s, starting January 29, 2024. This transition is part of a plan that was revealed on November 8, 2022.

Bob Eckert, the chairman of the board, expressed gratitude to Bergh for his transformative and dedicated leadership, noting that he has significantly enhanced the company’s stature. Eckert also expressed enthusiasm for Gass’s appointment, highlighting her role in refining Levi’s brand vision and adeptly positioning it in the global market.

Under Bergh’s leadership, Levi Strauss & Co. evolved from a primarily U.S.-based men’s wholesale bottoms business to a globally recognized, direct-to-consumer brand, with a revitalized women’s segment. Bergh praised Gass’s experience and innovative track record, confident in her ability to drive sustainable growth and value creation.

Gass, looking forward to her new role, emphasized Levi’s iconic status and her ambition to transform the company into a world-class direct-to-consumer retailer.
