King Charles Embraces Eco-Friendly Christmas, Delighting Prince William

King Charles, since ascending the throne, has brought a fresh perspective to royal traditions, particularly during the festive season. This year, he has introduced a significant change to the Christmas decorations at Buckingham Palace, which will be evident during his Christmas Day speech.

The King’s second Christmas message as monarch, scheduled for broadcast at 3 pm, was recorded in the Centre Room at Buckingham Palace. In a departure from tradition, the Christmas tree this year is a living tree, adorned with eco-friendly decorations such as hand-turned wood, dried oranges, brown glass, pinecones, and paper.

This environmentally conscious decision aligns with King Charles’ long-standing advocacy for nature and sustainability. The choice to avoid plastic ornaments is a testament to his commitment to eco-friendly practices. Additionally, the living tree will be replanted after the holiday season, potentially setting a new royal Christmas tradition.

Prince William is expected to appreciate this sustainable approach, as he has been vocal about environmental issues, following in his father’s footsteps. In his inaugural speech as the Prince of Wales, William emphasized the importance of protecting the natural world, a value instilled in him by his father and late grandmother.

At the Earthshot Prize Awards in Singapore in November, William expressed his concerns about the climate crisis and its increasingly visible impacts. Given his dedication to environmental causes, King Charles’ decision to opt for a sustainable Christmas celebration likely resonates deeply with him, and he might have even influenced this choice.

Anticipation is high for a potential royal photoshoot commemorating the replanting of the Christmas tree, symbolizing the royal family’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
