Kerry Katona is stirring up the dating scene and reality TV world with her latest call for a Celebrity version of the hit dating show Love Island, specifically tailored for single stars over 40. The former pop star and reality TV personality, who is a mum-of-five, recently opened up about her personal life and her desire to get back into the dating game after a very public breakup with her fiancé, Ryan Mahoney.
Katona, who split from Ryan back in November after six years together due to what she described as a “breach of trust,” revealed her thoughts in her weekly column. She admitted: “I wish they’d do a celeb over forties Love Island – I’d be on there in a heartbeat. It looks like so much fun. I want to be involved”, according to the Mirror.
Her heartfelt call for a new, age-appropriate version of the popular reality dating show comes at a time when the original series has seen celebrity involvement in the past, with stars like Paul Danan and Calum Best having taken part when the show was filmed in Fiji. However, that version ended in 2006, and while recent years have seen celebrities like Joey Essex on the regular Love Island, a dedicated celebrity version has yet to return.
In her column, Katona expressed how captivated she is by the current iteration of Love Island: “I am absolutely loving Love Island: All Stars – I’ve become obsessed. I think I’m a bit in love with Casey. He seems like he’s really grown up since the last time he was on the show and is very cute with Gabby. I think Ekin-Su is trying to stir up the drama too much, but I do really like Curtis.” Her enthusiasm for the show not only highlights her ongoing love for reality TV but also underscores her readiness to re-enter the dating scene with renewed optimism.
Despite her excitement about a potential new show, Katona’s personal life remains in a state of recovery. She candidly admitted that the breakup has left her emotionally raw. “It’s hard seeing other couples happy and thinking of how I was always with Ryan at Christmas. I’m struggling to feel that spirit. It was six and a half years of my life, and all the memories from that time. I’ve spent some days crying all day because I do really miss him. I’m just heartbroken.”
While she has not disclosed every detail behind their separation, Katona explained the split by stating, “We are no longer together and it’s been a really tough week – I never in a million years thought this would happen. Without going into too much detail, there’s been a breach of trust between us. I don’t know if we’ll be able to work it out or not, but I do still love him so much. I feel like everything has heaped on recently and it’s so much to deal with, I’m really struggling. But I know I can get through it, no matter what happens. I’ve been through break-ups before and come out the other side, so we just need to see what happens.”
Katona’s dual narrative of seeking new love and her hope for a celeb over forties Love Island reflects her resilient spirit and readiness to embrace life’s next chapter. As she navigates heartbreak and renewal, fans remain supportive, eagerly awaiting the next steps in her journey toward finding love again.
