Keir Starmer Delivers Crucial Update to Zelensky Following Trump’s Aid Bombshell

LONDON, UK — Prime Minister Keir Starmer has commended Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his unwavering commitment to securing peace following a phone call between the two leaders. The conversation came after a major setback for Ukraine, as former U.S. President Donald Trump announced the suspension of military aid to the war-torn nation.

The controversial move has sparked widespread condemnation and heightened concerns over the White House’s increasingly close ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Veteran Conservative MP Graham Stuart even questioned whether Trump could be acting as a Russian asset, while U.S. Vice President JD Vance caused further uproar by allegedly downplaying the UK’s military contributions—comments he later denied.

Despite the escalating tensions, Zelensky remains open to working with Trump. In a statement, No. 10 Downing Street detailed Starmer’s discussion with the Ukrainian leader:

“The Prime Minister spoke to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, this afternoon. The Prime Minister updated on his discussion with President Trump last night. It was vital that all parties worked towards a lasting and secure peace for Ukraine as soon as possible, the Prime Minister added, told The Mirror.

“Turning to President Zelenskyy’s most recent calls for further diplomatic efforts to achieve the swiftest possible end to the war, the Prime Minister welcomed President Zelenskyy’s steadfast commitment to securing peace. Underscoring that any peace for Ukraine needed to be lasting and secure, the Prime Minister said no one wanted peace more than Ukraine. The leaders agreed to stay in close touch in the coming days.”

Zelensky recently met with European leaders in London, where Starmer urged them to join a “coalition of the willing” to bring an end to the conflict. Following his call with the UK Prime Minister, Zelensky emphasized the urgency of securing a just and lasting peace.

“Peace is needed for all of us. A just peace with clear security guarantees. Together with the leadership of the United States and all of Europe, this is absolutely achievable,” he stated.

The UK government is now working on a peace plan in collaboration with France and Ukraine, aiming to present it to the Trump administration. However, Starmer has stressed that a U.S. security guarantee is essential to prevent Putin’s forces from regrouping and launching further attacks.

Zelensky also reiterated Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate under Trump’s leadership, calling for immediate steps such as a prisoner release and a ceasefire on aerial and naval attacks. He acknowledged past U.S. support, particularly Trump’s provision of Javelin missiles, and expressed hope for renewed cooperation.

“Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be. It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right,” Zelensky said.

With growing international pressure and diplomatic efforts underway, all eyes remain on the evolving dynamics between Ukraine, the UK, and the Trump administration.
