Keir Starmer Caught in Lockdown Scandal Over Secret Voice Coach Sessions

An independent investigation has been called for amid fresh controversy surrounding Sir Keir Starmer, with accusations that he breached Covid lockdown rules. The issue emerged after Tory MP Richard Holden lashed out against Starmer, alleging that the Prime Minister hired a voice coach during Tier 4 restrictions—a time when strict rules were in place and many faced fines for non-compliance.
The allegations stem from revelations contained in a new book by a Sunday Times journalist, which detailed that Starmer had a face-to-face meeting on Christmas Eve 2020 with his voice coach, Leonie Mellinger, at Labor HQ. This meeting occurred when London was under a strict “Stay At Home” order and COVID-19 infections were on the rise.
Holden argues that this apparent breach of the rules is particularly galling given Starmer’s previous criticism of Boris Johnson’s handling of Covid restrictions. He pointed out that while Starmer has been vocally critical of others who broke the rules, his own actions now appear to contradict those standards.
Speaking to Daily Mail, Holden said, “He’s been very, very critical of others. Obviously, people will know of the way he responded to Boris Johnson during that period, and he now appears to have had a voice coach into Labor HQ on Christmas Eve.
“So it’s really reignited that entire question. The real issue behind this is that Keir Starmer really did go out there demanding that everybody was held to the highest possible account at every stage.
“Now it looks like there are big questions for him to answer, which is why we want an independent investigator to be appointed. It’s quite odd, some of the phrasing in this book from some of those senior Labor officials who were involved at the time.
“They have said that they considered her to be a key worker or thought she was a key worker for him. I mean, we all know that Starmer’s got that very strange nasal adenoids issue with his voice. “So he might have considered it very important, whether or not the country did when they were all locked down I think is the question at the heart of the matter here.”
Holden has not shied away from highlighting what he perceives as a stark double standard. In a letter addressed to Starmer, he demanded answers over the alleged misuse of resources and the apparent hypocrisy of his actions. “Do you think it would be right for other members of the public to get acting lessons during tier 4 restrictions?” Holden wrote, questioning the logic behind such a decision and implying that Starmer’s actions undermine his credibility.
A spokesperson for the Labor Party quickly dismissed the claims, stating, “The rules were followed,” though critics argue this is a familiar refrain that fails to address the deeper concerns about accountability and consistency. The call for an independent probe suggests that many believe a thorough review is necessary to restore public trust in the leadership’s handling of Covid restrictions.
As the debate rages on, the pressure mounts on Starmer to explain the discrepancies between his public statements and his personal conduct during one of the most challenging periods of the pandemic. With questions still unanswered, the saga continues to fuel political tension as calls for transparency and fairness grow louder.
